Fat Betty wasn’t just a treat for “Mad Men” viewers, it also helped January Jones! In a new interview, Jones said playing Fat Betty helped her acting.
"It was a study in acting in a way because I was very limited in my movements and everything had to be portrayed in my face, in my eyes. So it was challenging but I thought they did a really good job with it," Jones explained.
"Mad Men" has been insane this year. We’ve mashed up the season’s biggest moments, but in a way that’s spoiler-free and safe to watch, even if you’re not caught up. Seriously. In true “Mad Men” fashion — we borrowed their comically vague “Next time on ‘Mad Men’” preview style to recap Season 5 so far.
January Jones said she “loved” the Fat Betty direction of “Mad Men” Season 5.
"I didn’t want to try to hide it. I thought it would become comical and weird," Jones said. "I also didn’t want to have the character become pregnant because it just wouldn’t make sense — she had just had one. And I thought it would be something fun, not realizing it was going to be a pain … It was definitely difficult, but I love what [Matt Weiner] did with the character’s story. Everyone likes a challenge."
